So now they’re trying to blow up Times Square!

Two weeks before I go there and just a couple of streets over from my hotel!

Thanks Al Qaeda, what did I ever do to you pray tell? Shit… Are they reading this? Please don’t hurt me!

I thought I was stressed out enough making sure I made it to the airport, let alone the right aeroplane, and now this.

I don’t think The Woman’s Day has written ‘The Modern girls Guide to Terror Attacks’ yet. Has anyone?
Hopefully it never comes to that, hopefully.

Maybe I’m just so used to my peaceful, ‘normal’ life, even contemplation of such an event is hard.

In New Zealand the only thing that might have come close to terrorism would have to be the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in 1985 by operatives of the French intelligence service (DGSE). That killed one of the Greenpeace activists onboard (thanks 7th Form History). In comparison to 1985, the bombs and weapons used today have become more and more dangerous, undetectable and downright scary. To think a text message could shatter the lives of hundreds…

Day to day, how much do the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan affect you and I? I mean unless I sit down and watch (and by that I mean pay full attention to) the news, I hardly ever think about what is happening outside my little world. In saying that, I think the focus of the media is more and more coming away from the Middle East, (maybe) because there is not much we plebs can do. The Iraq war is almost never featured on the channel I watch, and Afghanistan is only mentioned when New Zealand Soldiers like Willie Apiata come to light. War is not a natural disaster, an accident, and sure as hell CAN be prevented, unlike an earthquake, Tsunami or Hurricane, where we can donate money, aid & resources, either personally or via agencies like The Red Cross. I’m sure if there was a way to stop the fighting and the politics, for the civilians at least, many of us would sign a dotted line.

I’m not completely ignorant, I do care. Who wants to grow up in a world without peace? And who wants to contemplate that same world for their future children?

But what can I do? Maybe I can write these words, and hope that someone reads them, and hope it makes that person think. The universe is what it is, because of thoughts.

If WWI stopped on Christmas Day, then resumed the next day in 1914, surely some kind of arrangement could be made… Maybe the USA would have to compromise the most… take their fingers out of a few pies… forget that damn oil, or whatever their reasons were; and look after their own country – from within its borders…Why not???

I just want to have the most amazing holiday of my life. I know it will be no matter what. I just felt like asking the questions I guess.
